Shree Ramchandrapura Mutt – Where Devotion Meets Compassion

On 1st September, I had the privilege to visit Shree Ramchandrapura Mutt, situated in the serene town of Hosanagar, Karnataka. The mutt rests gracefully beside the River Sharavathi, a setting that itself feels like a blessing of nature. The day was special—it was a Monday and Amavasya, and we were fortunate to participate in the special puja for Lord Shiva. The air was filled with chants, the fragrance of flowers, and a deep sense of devotion. After the soulful puja, we shared a simple yet fulfilling lunch, a prasad that carried both nourishment and grace.

One of the most memorable parts of the visit was our time at the Goushala. Organized beautifully, the cowshed is unlike any I have seen. At its center stands a temple, symbolizing divinity at the heart of life, and all around are sheds that house the cows. This space reflects both devotion and discipline, ensuring that the cows are not just protected but also revered.

The Goushala is home to over 500 cows, representing 28 different indigenous Indian breeds. Walking through, I was amazed at their diversity. Some of the cows were majestic in their size, strong and towering, while at the same time, I saw the Punganur cows, known to be the smallest breed in India. Witnessing such variety in one space was truly heartwarming—it felt like a living treasure of India’s ancient cattle heritage.

During our visit, we offered them three types of bio-enzymes

  • One for the shed,

  • One for the feed, and

  • One for the body.

We also shared instructions on their usage, and there was a strong sense of confidence and hope within us. With these natural solutions, we believe we can help protect and save many cows and calves this season.

What touched me most was the harmony of it all—the presence of the temple, the care for the cows, the flowing river nearby, and the ancient yet living traditions of the mutt. Shree Ramchandrapura Mutt is more than a spiritual place; it is a sanctuary where devotion, service, and compassion meet.

This visit left me with gratitude and inspiration. Standing by the Sharavathi, watching the cows, and feeling the vibrations of the puja, I realized once again that serving nature and serving divinity are inseparable. The mutt embodies this truth beautifully, reminding us that spirituality is not just in rituals but also in how lovingly we care for every living being.
