Bridging Green Chemistry, Circular Economy & Community Action
The IIMT University continues to strengthen its commitment to sustainability and innovation through meaningful academic engagements that connect science with societal impact. In line with this vision, the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences successfully organized a One Day Workshop on Bio-Enzymes, bringing together students, faculty members, and sustainability enthusiasts for an immersive learning experience focused on eco-friendly living and waste-to-resource practices.
The workshop highlighted how simple household organic waste can be transformed into powerful natural solutions through fermentation — reducing dependence on chemical products while promoting environmental stewardship.
About IIMT University
IIMT University is a UGC-approved institution accredited with NAAC A Grade and recognized under Sections 2(f) and 12B. The university is widely known for fostering innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainability-driven education.
Actively aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Government of India’s LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) mission, the university encourages practical, community-oriented approaches to environmental responsibility across disciplines.
The School of Pharmaceutical Sciences has emerged as a key center for applied science and sustainable practices, integrating ecological awareness with scientific learning.
Inspiring Session by Mrs. Swati Singh
The workshop was led by Swati Singh, a nationally recognized advocate of the bio-enzyme movement in India.
As the National Vice President of the WICCI Bio Enzyme Council and Brand Ambassador for the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram, she has played a significant role in promoting sustainable waste management and circular economy models at both grassroots and policy levels.
Through her initiatives — Color Code Engineering, Color Code Foundation, and Dakshleela Exim LLP — she has trained hundreds of individuals, conducted workshops across communities and institutions, and inspired many to adopt eco-conscious lifestyles.
Her session combined scientific understanding with practical implementation, making the concept of bio-enzymes accessible, relatable, and actionable for participants.
Objectives of the Workshop
The workshop was organized with a vision to:
- Introduce students and faculty to the science of bio-enzyme fermentation
- Demonstrate sustainable alternatives to chemical-based household products
- Promote zero-waste living and circular economy thinking
- Encourage environmentally responsible habits among youth
- Connect academic learning with real-world sustainability practices
- Inspire entrepreneurship opportunities in the green economy sector
Key Learning Highlights
Participants were introduced to the complete ecosystem of bio-enzyme production and application through interactive discussions and demonstrations.
Topics Covered Included:
- Understanding what bio-enzymes are and how they function
- Fermentation techniques using fruit peels, jaggery, and water
- Preparation of natural cleaners and personal care solutions
- Specialized enzymes made from citrus, neem, moringa, rose, and herbal ingredients
- Household, agricultural, and community-scale applications
- Bio-enzyme entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihood opportunities
- Linking bio-enzymes with SDGs, LiFE mission, and climate-conscious living
The workshop enabled participants to understand how waste materials commonly discarded from kitchens can become valuable resources for cleaning, gardening, farming, and environmental restoration.
Significance of Bio-Enzymes in Today’s World
Bio-enzymes are increasingly being recognized as one of the simplest and most effective tools for sustainable living. Produced through natural fermentation of organic waste, they help reduce dependence on harmful chemicals while supporting ecological balance.
Their benefits include:
- Reduction in landfill waste
- Lower chemical pollution in water systems
- Eco-friendly alternatives for homes and institutions
- Soil and plant health improvement
- Community-level waste management solutions
- Low-cost entrepreneurship opportunities
Workshops such as this play an important role in equipping students and researchers with practical green chemistry approaches that extend beyond textbooks into everyday life.
As India advances toward circular economy models and sustainable development pathways, such institutional initiatives contribute meaningfully toward creating environmentally conscious citizens and professionals.
A Step Towards a Greener Future
The One Day Workshop on Bio-Enzymes at IIMT University stood as a powerful example of how academic institutions can bridge knowledge and action for environmental transformation.
By bringing together sustainability practitioners and young learners, the event created a platform for dialogue, innovation, and hands-on learning rooted in ecological responsibility.
The workshop concluded with a collective message:
“Be a part of the green revolution — innovate, create & sustain!”
Through initiatives like these, universities are not only educating future professionals but also nurturing changemakers who can contribute toward building a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable world.
